The Writings of

Doug Moss

This is a continually changing page. Check back often to see new stories. The badge below is a Fort Worth police badge. The animal at the top is a panther. Fort Worth is known for the legend of the sleeping panther. It was coined by a Dallas newspaper writer back in the early 1900's who said, "Fort Worth is so boring there was a panther asleep on the steps of the courthouse." It's the only police badge in the world that has been to the moon. Astronaut Alan Bean, who is from Fort Worth, and an honorary Fort Worth Police officer, took the badge with him to the moon in 1969.  I've now added a comments section below. Thank you for writing your police stories. They've made this random Dutch guy's shift a lot less boring. Enjoy retirement!

Your story of Colleyville reminded me a time in the early 90's when the Police raided a high society, young men's poker game in west FW. A lot of very well off west-siders were seen in the room but nobody was playing poker. They all stuck together and there were no more stories in the newspaper about it. Sound familiar?

Yeah...... I saw that a lot. We used to raid clubs on the eastside and northside. We came in one night and said, lets raid some clubs on the avenue. That was shot down real fast........ It takes money to be above the law.... plain and simple.......

Your story about Colleyville makes me think of some of the people who lived on the West side of Fort Worth. No shootings but just a pain, always a pain.

Yes..... you're right. The rich people always have some kind of drama going on. The west side always had something going on, but it was a pain, it wasn't a major crime. That was an everyday event in Colleyville.....
